This policy explains how Terawiz Consulting (“Terawiz”, “we”, “us”) handles personal information when you use our website at terawiz.co.za, our hosting and email services, and our mobile applications published on the Apple App Store and Google Play (together, the “Services”).
We are based in South Africa and process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). Where users are in other regions, we apply the same standards of care.
1. What we collect
1.1 Website
Our website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Like nearly all web servers, ours keeps standard technical logs (IP address, requested page, time, browser identifier) for security and troubleshooting. Logs are kept only as long as operationally necessary.
If you use our contact form, we receive the details you type — your name, email address, optional company name, and your message. The form sends this to our mailbox by email; it is not stored in a website database.
1.2 Hosting and email clients
If we host your website or email, we process the account information needed to provide the service: contact and billing details, domain and mailbox names, and the technical logs our servers generate. The content of your mailboxes and websites belongs to you; we access it only when needed to provide support you have requested, to keep the platform secure, or where the law requires.
1.3 Mobile applications
Each Terawiz app is designed to collect the minimum it needs to function. Depending on the app, this may include: account details you provide (such as an email address), content you create in the app, and basic diagnostic information (crash reports, device model, OS version) used to fix bugs. The data types for a specific app are declared in its App Store and Google Play listing.
Our apps do not sell personal information and do not share it with third parties for advertising.
2. How we use information
- To provide and operate the Services, including support and billing.
- To respond when you contact us.
- To secure our systems — detecting abuse, fraud and attacks.
- To improve the Services, using aggregated or de-identified information wherever possible.
- To meet legal obligations, such as tax and accounting record-keeping.
We do not use your personal information for third-party advertising, and we do not send marketing email unless you have asked for it.
3. Legal grounds
We process personal information where it is necessary to perform a contract with you, where we have a legitimate interest (such as securing our infrastructure), where you have consented, or where the law requires it.
4. Sharing
We share personal information only with:
- Infrastructure providers — our servers are hosted in reputable data centres (including Teraco facilities in South Africa). Providers process data on our instructions.
- Professional advisers — accountants and auditors, under confidentiality.
- Authorities — where a valid legal demand requires it.
We never sell or rent personal information.
5. Security
We apply security measures appropriate to the risk: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hardened server configurations, access on a need-to-know basis, and segregation between client environments. No system is perfectly secure, but security is the core of what we do for a living, and we treat your data with the same discipline as our clients’ production systems.
6. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, then delete or de-identify it. Accounting records are retained for the periods South African law requires. Contact-form emails are kept for as long as the conversation is live, and deleted in routine mailbox clean-ups thereafter.
7. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to certain processing. Submit a request via our contact page — or use the email address in section 11 — and we will respond within a reasonable time. You may also lodge a complaint with the South African Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).
8. Children
Our Services are not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Our primary infrastructure is in South Africa. Where a specific app or service uses infrastructure in another country, we ensure an adequate level of protection consistent with POPIA before transferring personal information there.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this address with a new effective date. Material changes affecting an app will also be reflected in that app’s store listing.
